Editorial Badge Impact ('App of the Day' and Featured Badges)

Editorial badges like 'App of the Day' come from Apple's curatorial process, not from ASO metadata, but the install spike they generate can indirectly affect keyword ranking through download velocity.

Badges and featured placements are awarded by Apple's editorial team based on design, timeliness, and story quality, using the same curatorial process behind Today tab features generally. No keyword field configuration earns a badge directly.

Where ASO intersects with a badge is downstream: a featured app typically sees a sharp, temporary rise in installs, and that download velocity is a factor in the ranking algorithm. Some of that ranking gain can outlast the feature itself if the resulting installs engage and retain well.

The dependency runs one direction. A badge can produce keyword ranking gains as a side effect; keyword optimization cannot produce a badge as a side effect of its own.

Frequently asked questions

Will optimizing my keywords increase my chances of an editorial badge?
No. Editorial selection is a separate, human-curated process based on design and story quality. Strong ASO doesn't factor into that decision, though a well-optimized listing helps convert the traffic a badge sends your way.
