Does updating my app frequently help App Store ranking?

Update frequency is read as a maintenance and quality signal, but it's a minor factor compared to relevance, conversion, and retention — shipping updates with no real improvement just to signal activity isn't a meaningful ranking strategy on its own.

A stale, unmaintained app (no updates in a year or more) can read as a weaker quality signal than an actively maintained one, all else equal. That's a real but secondary input, not a lever worth pulling in isolation from actual product or metadata improvements.

The updates that move ranking are the ones that improve conversion (better screenshots, a clearer subtitle) or retention (real product improvements), not the act of updating itself.
