In-App Purchase Keywords

In-App Purchase (IAP) names and descriptions are indexed by Apple for search — giving apps an additional, often overlooked, source of keyword coverage beyond the main metadata fields.

Apple indexes the names and descriptions of an app's in-app purchases and subscriptions for App Store search. A subscription named 'Premium: Habit Tracker Pro Features' contributes the terms 'premium', 'habit', 'tracker', 'pro', and 'features' to the app's search footprint — without using any keyword field characters.

This means naming IAPs thoughtfully for both conversion (what does the user get?) and keyword coverage (what terms do I want to rank for that I haven't fit into the name, subtitle, or keyword field?) is a legitimate optimization layer.

IAP keyword coverage is less powerful than name or subtitle placement, but it is effectively free character space that most apps underutilize.

Frequently asked questions

How many IAP names can I use for keyword coverage?
Apple allows up to 10 in-app purchases per app. Each IAP name is indexed. The practical limit is how many IAPs your app genuinely offers — creating fake IAPs purely for keyword coverage violates Apple's guidelines.
