App Clip Discoverability

App Clips are lightweight, instant-launch slices of an app triggered by a link, code, or NFC tag rather than App Store search, so conventional keyword ASO has little bearing on how they're discovered.

Unlike the full app, an App Clip is typically launched from a QR code, a Safari App Clip banner, a Messages link, or an NFC tap tied to a physical location or object — not from a user typing a search term into the App Store. This makes keyword field optimization largely irrelevant to App Clip discovery specifically.

The App Clip's own card and invocation experience still matters for conversion once a user has been directed to it, but that's a design and trust question (does this look legitimate and worth a tap?) rather than a keyword question.

For apps that use App Clips as part of a broader acquisition strategy, the ASO-relevant work stays with the full app's listing, since a well-run App Clip experience is often what converts a user into installing the full app afterward.

Frequently asked questions

Can someone find my App Clip by searching the App Store?
No. App Clips are invoked through links, codes, or tags placed by the developer, not through App Store search. If you want search discoverability, that has to come from the full app listing.
